This Monday, January 18th, in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, thousands will come Downtown for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Observance March and Commemoration. Several Downtown streets will be impacted, take note below and plan ahead for an alternative route or added travel time.
Activities begin at 9:00 am in the rotunda of the Old Courthouse at 4th Street and Market with the civic ceremony starting at 10:00 am. At 11:00 am the March of Celebration will travel through the streets of Downtown and conclude at the Washington Tabernacle Baptist Church with an interfaith service at 12:30 pm.
The march will begin at 4th Street and Market, head west on Market, north on Tucker, west on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, south on Compton, and finish at the Washington Tabernacle Baptist Church (3200 Washington Boulevard). All streets impacted by the march will close on a rolling basis and reopen once all participants have cleared that portion of the route.
