Beginning today, we welcome 330 wrestlers, more than 16,000 visiting fans, plus hundreds of out-of-town student-athletes, coaches, administrators and national media for the NCAA National Wrestling Championship! The crowds and energy this event brings to Downtown has been a mid-March treat for local businesses and the hospitality industry for years. More than 90 percent of those attending the Championships come from outside St. Louis. Most will stay at least three nights resulting in millions of dollars in direct visitor spending.
These 330 athletes wrestled their way to St. Louis from a pool of 2,478 wrestlers. The sessions begin today and by Saturday night, 10 wrestlers will have advanced through the brackets and be crowned national champions. Check out the schedule below.
Session 1 11 a.m. Thursday
Session 2 6 p.m. Thursday
Session 3 10 a.m. Friday
Session 4 7 p.m. Friday
Session 5 10 a.m. Saturday
Session 6 7 p.m. Saturday (Parade of All-Americans at 6:35 p.m.)
For this year’s event, more than 18,000 all-session tickets have been sold, with just a few remaining on sale. Get your tickets before they sell-out at http://on.ncaa.com/StLouis. If interested in feeling the energy of the NCAA Wrestling Championships, but not planning to make it to Scottrade, check out the Fan Festival at Union Station. All weekend long, you can visit wrestling exhibit booths, shop for memorabilia, attend autograph sessions, play interactive games and more!
This is an important event for Downtown and for the region. This is the 7th time since 2000 that Downtown St. Louis has been home to the NCAA Wrestling Championship, and it will be back in 2017. Let’s make this a year to remember—join us Downtown for an energizing weekend!
